London, 11 June 2025: Aide Health, the digital health platform using conversational AI to support patients with long-term conditions, has been awarded a £700,000 Biomedical Catalyst grant from Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), to develop a pathway for haematological cancers.
Each year, 40,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with blood cancer, and around 280,000 people are living with or in remission from the disease. With this funding, Aide Health will expand its platform to support patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), and myeloma, three of the most common haematological cancers.
Haematology-oncology is an area of medicine seeing rapid innovation. Advanced treatments like CAR-T cell therapy, bispecific antibodies, and targeted oral therapies have transformed outcomes for patients with blood cancer. However, these innovations also bring complex regimens, side effects, and the need for ongoing support outside of hospital settings.
Unlike patients with other chronic conditions, those living with blood cancers often lack access to tailored digital health tools. There is a growing need to support adherence to home-based therapies, capture symptoms, side effects, and outcomes data for clinicians, and strengthen patient understanding of their treatment. This project will build on Aide Health’s existing platform, which currently supports five conditions: asthma, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and chronic kidney disease.
Andrew King, Consultant Haematologist at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said,
The development of novel therapies for blood cancers in the last two decades has been extraordinary, meaning many patients now live with these cancers as a chronic condition. This project will give patients greater autonomy in managing their disease and reduce pressure on both primary and secondary care. It will also enable the rapid identification of side effects related to treatment, helping to prevent unnecessary complications. Patients with blood cancers have typically been underserved by digital tools, and it is fantastic that Aide Health has chosen to direct their expertise in the management of chronic conditions to this cohort.”
To ensure the new pathway is grounded in real-world patient needs, Aide Health is partnering with Healthcare Central London (HCL), a Federation of 31 General Practices in the borough of Westminster, which provides Community and Primary Care services to more than 275,000 local residents. HCL will help establish a patient participation group and serve as a research partner during development.
Dr Rishi Chopra, GP Partner and Healthcare Central London Chair said,
Supporting people with blood cancer increasingly requires more than just hospital-based care. These patients are often managing complex treatment at home, so the role of Primary Care becomes more important than ever. It is our hope through this partnership that we create a model that provides patients with the right care, exactly where they need it.”
This milestone follows Aide Health’s continued growth in the NHS, where it has been used by patients for over two years, supporting long-term behaviour change. This year also marks Aide Health’s expansion to the US, as one of 20 companies selected for the ABHI US Accelerator. The accelerator, now in its eighth cohort, connects UK health technology companies to providers, payers and academic health systems in the US. On average, companies expect to generate more than $15 million in business over five years due to their involvement in the programme.
